Donald (F47) is a young male eagle who was collected from a very accessible low crag in Tayside and Fife on the 7th June 2023. No climbers were required at this site as it was possible to walk up to this eyrie due to its remote and undisturbed location.
Donald shared an aviary with another young male Haworth (164) and was released on the 19th of July, weighing 4kg.
Maple (F24) is a young male eagle translocated from a tree nest on the beautiful Strathspey Estate on the 22nd June. After sharing an aviary with another young male Talla (F15), he was released on 19th July weighing 3.8kg.
It is with great sadness that we must report the disappearance of Merrick (F43), a young female golden eagle from the 2022 summer releases.
The South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project works to reinforce the vulnerable population of golden eagles in the south of Scotland; vital conservation work ensuring the survival of this iconic apex predator in our southern skies. Reinforcing an understanding and appreciation of this species amongst communities and visitors is just as important.
