Police confirm Merrick’s disappearance was due to persecution.
Following an investigation, Police Scotland, have today (Wednesday 1 May 2024) confirmed that they are confident Merrick the golden eagle’s disappearance is due to persecution.
Merrick (F43), a female golden eagle that the project team translocated to southern Scotland in 2022, was reported missing in autumn 2023.
Haworth (164) is a young male eagle, collected from a tree nest in the Central Highlands on the 30th May 2023, the earliest collection in project history. He was released on the 19th July 2023 alongside male eagles Donald (F47), Maple (F24) and Emiel (F27), weighing 4.1kg.
Emiel (F27) is a young female golden eagle who was given her name by landowner Adrian in memory of his eldest son who sadly passed away after battling Burkitt Lymphoma, an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma.
Paradise is a young female eagle, collected from the beautiful Isle of Colonsay in Argyll on the 26th June 2023.
