It is with great sadness that we must report the disappearance of Merrick (F43), a young female golden eagle from the 2022 summer releases.
Police Scotland have confirmed that they “believe the bird has come to harm and are treating her disappearance as suspicious.”
The South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project works to reinforce the vulnerable population of golden eagles in the south of Scotland; vital conservation work ensuring the survival of this iconic apex predator in our southern skies. Reinforcing an understanding and appreciation of this species amongst communities and visitors is just as important.
Buccy (261) is a male golden eagle who was named and adopted by The Buccleuch Arms Hotel in Moffat.
Sadly, one of the youngest translocated Golden Eagles, Sula (B50) was discovered dead on the afternoon of 11th February 2023 at Queensbury Estate, Dumfries & Galloway.
